Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate the level of institutional commitment, nursing professionalism, and nursing readiness of Korea Armed Forces Nursing Academy (KAFNA) and to analyze correlations among variables.
Methods: This study was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Data were collected from 299 cadets from all student years. The self-reported questionnaire is composed of items about general features, institutional commitment, nursing readiness, and nursing professionalism.

Results: The mean score of institutional commitment, nursing readiness, and nursing professionalism was 3.93, 3.43, and 3.64 respectively. The level of institutional commitment, nursing readiness, and nursing professionalism was significantly different according to the general features, commonly to ¡®student year¡¯. Institutional commitment and nursing readiness were significantly correlated among upper years of cadets but not in lower years. Institutional commitment and nursing professionalism had significant correlation among all student years.

Conclusion: Based on the results, it is suggested that KAFNA¡¯s relevant personnel consider the grade year of cadets when developing an education or training program. Furthermore, Educational opportunities must be provided for cadets that as they go up in years they maintain their level of institutional commitment. Lastly, support and educational intervention are essential for senior cadets in order to maintain the high institutional commitment even after they graduate from KAFNA.
